The Dominican Republic sits on the north-northeastern part of the Caribbean Sea.  It is on this tropical island that we find the man of untiring labor and great faith in the ability of God to provide; Pastor Pedro (Peter) Florentine.

In 2006 Pastor Peter completed the construction of a center that houses a school and a church. In 2010, with the help of an OOA Global Missions Church Partner, another building was aquired to provide a church and school in the mountian region of northern Dominica.

The Dominican Republic is viewed as a poor country, and indeed by Western standards, many people live in conditions you would not consider bearable. Far away from the tourist enclaves, Dominican houses are typically small, usually without running water and often without electricity. Many streets are narrow and unpaved, and when it rains, water gushes along the street. This isn’t to say that everybody is poor. The major cities and some of the tourist towns have their share of well-off people as with most countries.

There are about 9 million people in the Dominican Republic, about half of which live in the country-side.  Unemployment runs about twice what it is here in the United States and about 10% of the population controls most of the national wealth. About 40% live well below the Dominican Repubplics poverty line.

With two churches planted and prospering, two schools including a vocational technical school, this young Pastor is making great progress in bringing kingdom change to the Dominican Republic.

His vision in this 95% Cathloic nation is to lead local people into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, where they will know him as their personal Savior!  At his center he provides classes to children and teens where they study the bible, learn Spanish, art, and basic skills.
